About Us

The Finnington prefix was formed in July 2008 by the amalgamation of the Tyldesley herds of Large Black and Middle White pigs, and British White cattle with the Kenworthy herds of Large Black and Middle White pigs, and flock of Soay sheep. Both herds have been in existence for around 15 years, and are based in South Manchester.

 

They strongly believe that there is a place in mainstream agriculture for their traditional breeds, and know that there is a growing market for quality stock, either for breeding or fattening.  All animals are raised in stress-free conditions, to the highest health standards, which coupled with the qualities of the slow maturing traditional breeds produces meat of the best eating quality.

 

They are active members of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, Cheshire Support Group and Janice is Secretary of the Large Black Pig Breeders Club, and committee member of the Soay Sheep Society, and is Chief Steward for the Pig Section of the Cheshire County Show.

 

Steve, partner Janice and her son Martyn regularly show at the county shows during the season promoting their breeds, and have had much success in the show ring over the last few years.
